"Wayfarer" - Guitar Ensemble Svarun's Debut!
The Guitar Ensemble Svarun's debut album Wayfarer (original: Popotnik) was formed under the guidance of the mentor Stane Bitežnik. The CD was recorded in the church of Saint Jurij, positioned on a hill, overlooking Bistrica pri Tržiču. All technical aspects of the recording process have been done by the professional and masterful sound technician Iztok Zupan, who we owe a great thanks.
The first part of the album consists manly of Grega Bitežnik's own works, who strives to seek a connection between music and philosophy, truth and beauty in his musical works.
His music expresses the journey of the soul, searching for its origin. The compositions in themselves are a wonderful depiction of guitar music, but they do for the most part drift away from the modern guitar styles, searching for its own expression. Philosophical lyrics give the sense of depth and give the beautiful mixture of music and word sweetnes and colour.
In the second part of the album Wayfarer, the guitar quintet looks back into the past, and gives a homage to the old masters. In Vivaldi's, Monteverdi's, Telemann's, as well as others' musical works an ancient truth, can still be felt even by the modern man. Arrangements for the guitar quintet have mostly been done by Stane Bitežnik.
The Wayfarer represents a mixture of modern with the "classical" and fills the wayfarer's soul with strength and hope, in the realisation of the ever-present abyss of evil, as the wayfarer must take great care not to tread in the wrong place. Therein lies the magic of a journey - the knowledge of danger, and in the search of the right path, that leads past the shadows, past the darkness into the light.
